Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Leadership and Governance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
According to Malaysian state news agency Bernama, the degree was conferred during a special ceremony at IIUM’s Kuala Lumpur campus. Shehbaz called it a “great privilege and honor” to be recognized by a renowned global institution and thanked Queen of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah for attending the event.
In her remarks, the Queen praised Shehbaz’s leadership, highlighting his vision, discipline, and compassion through initiatives like the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, which expanded access to higher education.
The prime minister said leadership was a “sacred trust” rooted in honesty, justice, and accountability before God, adding that he has served the people for over four decades with sincerity.
Later, Shehbaz met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and both leaders agreed to boost cooperation under the ASEAN framework. Malaysia also announced plans to import $200 million worth of halal meat from Pakistan — a move Shehbaz welcomed as a step toward stronger bilateral ties.
