SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The education department has launched a major crackdown on absentee teachers, forming three inquiry committees to probe 51 educators accused of skipping duties.

Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman said the move follows growing concerns over declining school performance and poor education quality across the district. The committees, formed under the DEO’s office, have been directed to submit reports within 15 days.

Each committee will review attendance records, duration of absenteeism, and related documents to recommend disciplinary action or clearance under the E&D Rules.

DEO Malik Khan said Rs7.2 million had already been recovered from absent teachers last year, and pay increments for several others were withheld. He warned that no negligence would be tolerated.

Officials said the initiative aims to restore discipline, ensure accountability, and reactivate non-functional schools—especially in remote areas like Birmal, Shakai, and Angoor Adda—where hundreds of children, particularly girls, remain deprived of ed

ucation.
