Sharm El-Sheikh: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their roles in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Speaking at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, held in Egypt to formalize the truce, Trump lauded the contributions of several world leaders toward achieving peace in Gaza.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was among the key participants, was invited by Trump to deliver a special address during the ceremony. In his remarks, the Prime Minister thanked President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for their mediation efforts, calling the accord a “historic day for the people of Gaza.”
“These peace efforts led by President Trump have restored hope for millions. He truly stands as a messenger of peace,” said Shehbaz Sharif.
He further stated that Pakistan had nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, reiterating that he was deserving of the honor for “saving countless lives and fostering peace not only in South Asia but now also in the Middle East.”
Sharif praised Trump’s diplomatic role, saying,
“You are the person the world needs most today — the leader who has stopped not just seven, but now eight wars.”
In a light-hearted moment, Trump returned to the stage after the Prime Minister’s remarks, saying with a smile,
“Well, I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home — there’s nothing left to say. Thank you all, that was beautiful.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held bilateral meetings with several global leaders on the sidelines of the summit, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah II of Jordan, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders expressed satisfaction over the ceasefire and reaffirmed their commitment to long-term peace and the welfare of the Palestinian people.
Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the resilience of Gaza’s people, acknowledging their endurance and sacrifices in the face of years of conflict.
