Field Marshal Asim Munir today appealed to the people of Afghanistan to opt for mutual security instead of continued violence, saying that Islamabad wants stability across the border and will not tolerate cross-border attacks.
Addressing the passing-out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, the army chief called on the Taliban-led regime to restrain proxy groups that use Afghan soil as safe havens to launch “heinous” operations inside Pakistan. He warned that these proxies carry out atrocities from across the border and must be stopped.
“With the cooperation of law-enforcement agencies, the armed forces and the public, we will defeat this scourge,” Field Marshal Munir said, adding that Pakistan will never bow before a “small number of misled terrorists” who wrongly interpret Islam.
He further cautioned that any renewed aggression against Pakistan would be met with a response far harsher than the attackers expect. The army chief accused India of persisting with a policy of state-sponsored terrorism after failing in conventional operations, using proxies as its instrument.
Describing the enemy’s tactic of using “hybrid guns” — proxies and non-state actors — as cowardly, he vowed that every state-backed proxy would be neutralised just as Pakistan succeeds on conventional battlefields. “Let there be no illusion — the Pakistan Army is vigilant on every front and our flag will always fly high,” he said.
