Another Polio Case Confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A new polio case has been reported from the Torghar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

‎According to details, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad has confirmed a new polio case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of cases in the province this year to 19.

‎The poliovirus has been confirmed in a 12 month old child from Union Council Ghari of Torghar district. Other cases have been reported as follows: four each from districts Lakki Marwat, Tank, and North Waziristan; three from Bannu; two from Torghar; and one each from Dera Ismail Khan and Lower Kohistan.

‎This brings the total number of polio cases reported across the country this year to 30 including 19 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan.

‎The National Institute of Health confirmed the presence of poliovirus in the recently affected child from Union Council Ghari of Torghar district.

‎According to the Emergency Operations Center, this is the first polio case of the year reported from Torghar district.

‎With the confirmation of this new case, the total number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 19 for the year.
