Tomato Prices Skyrocket to Rs. 600 per kg in Rawalpindi Amid Severe Shortage

Tomato prices in Rawalpindi have surged to an alarming Rs. 600 per kilogram as the city faces a severe supply shortage. Residents say the prices have nearly doubled within days, putting extra pressure on household budgets.

Market sources attribute the sharp increase to a disruption in supply chains and damage to tomato crops caused by unfavorable weather conditions in various parts of the country. With supply dwindling and demand remaining high, wholesale and retail prices have both soared.

Vendors report that limited stock is arriving in the market, and whatever produce is available is being sold at inflated rates. Meanwhile, local authorities and price control committees appear unable to stabilize the situation.

Experts warn that if the supply crisis continues, prices could rise even further in the coming days — making basic kitchen items increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer.
