Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Faces Backlash Despite Box Office Success

Milap Zaveri’s latest romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, may be performing well at the box office, but it’s drawing sharp criticism from audiences for its problematic portrayal of love and consent.

Released during the Diwali weekend, the film collected an impressive ₹26.08 crore within just three days of its release. However, social media users have accused the film of promoting “toxicity” and “misogyny” under the name of passion.

One user wrote, “Not respecting a woman’s consent and glorifying mental torture as deewaniyat is ridiculous. The apology in the climax wasn’t enough — the film spreads third-class content to a misogynistic generation.”

Another viewer commented that the movie felt “more like a daily soap than cinema”, while another added, “You’ll keep searching for the story. The only relief is when it ends.” Despite some praise for its music, the overall reception has been highly critical.

A viral comment summed up the audience’s frustration: “The girl keeps saying no, yet the hero keeps forcing himself on her. In 2025, can’t we do better than glorifying stalking and violence in the name of love?”

Apart from Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, the film also stars Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar, and Ananth Narayan Mahadevan in pivotal roles.

While Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat continues to draw crowds, it has also reignited the debate around the portrayal of women and relationships in mainstream cinema.
