Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across France on Saturday, October 24, amid a massive security operation.
The protests were driven by anger over the rising cost of living, economic inequality, and concerns about public services. According to France’s Interior Ministry, around 410,000 people demonstrated nationwide, while trade unions estimated the turnout at more than 800,000.
Authorities deployed approximately 70,000 police officers and gendarmes to prevent a repeat of the unrest that damaged businesses the previous weekend.
Although many marches began peacefully, clashes were later reported in several cities, including Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and Lille. Police used tear gas and water cannon in some areas, and arrests were made.
The demonstrations highlight growing social tensions in France as protesters demand better living conditions and stronger public services.
