KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer on Wednesday confirmed that an auction for two new franchises will be held ahead of the 11th edition of the tournament.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Bank Stadium, Naseer revealed that interested investors will be able to choose from a list of available city names for their teams.
“An auction will be organised for two new PSL franchises. Interested parties will be offered multiple city options,” he said. “The existing team owners will have the right to match the valuation of any new franchise to retain ownership of their sides.”
He further explained that with the revaluation of the current six franchises nearing completion, each owner will be given the first right of renewal for the next 10 seasons based on the new valuation.
“If any franchise decides not to renew, its team rights will be made available through an open bidding process under the updated structure, allowing new investors to join,” Naseer clarified.
When asked about recent remarks made by Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen, who had criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and publicly tore up a legal notice, the PSL chief emphasised that such matters should be handled privately and professionally.
“I don’t want to engage in a public dispute or damage the league’s reputation,” Naseer said. “If there’s an issue, it will be discussed legally and resolved behind closed doors — not through social media or public statements.”
Tareen had recently shared a viral video criticising the PCB’s “mediocre mindset” and later released a detailed proposal suggesting structural reforms for better governance, transparency, and long-term stability of the PSL.
Despite tensions, the Multan Sultans franchise expressed willingness to work with the board to rebuild trust and strengthen the league’s professional framework.
