Skywatchers have a final opportunity this week to catch a glimpse of two comets Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) and Comet SWAN (C/2025 R2) as both drift away from Earth after their recent close approaches.

Discovered by the Mount Lemmon Survey in Arizona earlier this year, Comet Lemmon will reach its closest point to the Sun on November 8, after passing about 89 million km from Earth on October 21. It’s currently visible through binoculars about 90 minutes after sunset in the northeastern sky under dark conditions.

Comet SWAN, a dimmer companion, can also be spotted in the southwestern sky around the same time. Both comets will fade over the next few days as the Moon brightens, so now’s the perfect time for a last look before they disappear into the outer solar system
