The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that head coach Jonathan Trott will part ways with the national team after the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Trott, who took charge in July 2022, guided Afghanistan through a historic period that included their first-ever World Cup semi-final appearance at the 2024 T20 World Cup. His tenure also saw Afghanistan record major victories over top-ranked teams, earning global recognition for their remarkable rise.

In an official statement, the ACB said the decision to conclude Trott’s term after the upcoming World Cup was made as part of its strategic plan for the team’s long-term development.

Trott expressed pride in Afghanistan’s achievements, saying, “I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’ll always remain a supporter of Afghan cricket. I wish the team and the Afghan people continued success.”

Under his guidance, Afghanistan not only improved their consistency in limited-overs cricket but also strengthened their reputation as one of the most competitive emerging sides in the world.

The board is now expected to begin the search for a new head coach to take charge after the T20 World Cup as Afghanistan looks to build on Trott’s strong foundation.
