KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has reported 1,213 new dengue cases across the province in the past 24 hours, following 5,295 tests conducted during the same period.

According to the surveillance update issued by Health Secretary Rehan Baloch, the division-wise breakdown shows that the Karachi Division registered 591 positive cases from 3,721 tests, while the Hyderabad Division recorded 622 positive results from 1,574 tests.

During this reporting interval, 115 new dengue patients were admitted into public hospitals and 128 into private facilities. Concurrently, 105 patients were discharged from government hospitals and 80 from private institutions following recovery. Tragically, the department confirmed four dengue-related deaths provincewide during the period.

At present, there are 217 patients under treatment in public-sector hospitals and 239 in private facilities across Sindh.

Bed allocation for dengue treatment

The department has designated 977 beds for dengue cases in public-sector hospitals, including 256 in Karachi, 159 in Hyderabad, and 562 in other districts. In the private sector, 459 beds have been reserved—183 in Karachi, 190 in Hyderabad, and 86 in other districts.

Laboratory surveillance network

Secretary Baloch noted that dengue surveillance data are being collected from 54 diagnostic laboratories across Sindh. Of these, 37 labs (13 public and 24 private) operate in Karachi, and 17 labs (6 public and 11 private) serve the Hyderabad division.

This latest update demonstrates the scale of the current dengue challenge in Sindh and underscores the importance of ongoing testing, treatment capacity and vector-control efforts. The department’s transparent reporting and detailed district-level breakdowns support public trust and informed response planning.
