Karachi — A motorcyclist was killed during intense gunfire near Gabol Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Thursday, in what eyewitnesses described as an exchange of fire between a citizen and armed robbers.
Police recovered multiple bullet casings from the crime scene, indicating shots were fired from 9mm and .30-bore weapons. Officials said the deceased appeared to be associated with the robbers, and one of his accomplices fled the scene after snatching his motorcycle.
The victim, who sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, was initially shifted to a nearby private hospital, from where Chhipa volunteers transferred the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal procedures.
He was later identified as 25-year-old Abdul Maqsat, a resident of PIB Colony who worked in the solar panel business. Police informed his family, who were in Hyderabad at the time and are now traveling to Karachi.
An eyewitness stated that the incident occurred near the hospital when gunfire erupted between a car-borne citizen and suspected robbers. The witness said he hid behind a parked car while the robbers snatched his motorcycle and escaped during the chaos.
A Crime Scene Unit team collected forensic evidence, while initial investigations suggest the shooting took place during a robbery attempt and subsequent resistance.
Police say all angles are being examined, and efforts are underway — including mobile device verification — to complete the investigation.
