Dialogue Drives Democracy, Deadlock Damages It: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Senator Rana Sanaullah, said on Friday that democracy grows stronger when political parties talk to each other, but constant deadlock only weakens the system.

Speaking during a Senate session, he shared that the prime minister had invited the opposition twice for talks inside Parliament. He added that the PM was even willing to meet them in the Speaker’s chamber if that made discussions easier. “The government wants negotiations to create a Charter of Democratic Stability,” Sanaullah emphasized.

Commenting on the PTI founder’s jail meetings, he said all such meetings take place strictly under legal procedures. He claimed that the PTI founder used a recent jail meeting to give instructions to his sister about disrupting law and order and making decisions within the party, instead of discussing family matters.

Sanaullah further said that the PTI founder refused to speak to the government, while the people he wishes to talk to are not willing to engage with him. He stressed that no meeting would be allowed if it threatened public safety or order.

However, he noted that the government still believes in dialogue. “The door for negotiations remains open. But if a committee is to be formed, the concerned party must first talk to its own leadership,” he concluded.
