The Pakistan Navy has reached another major milestone with the launch of its fourth Hangor-class submarine, PNS Ghazi, in Wuhan, China, marking steady progress in strengthening the country’s naval defence capabilities.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the submarine was launched at the Shuangliu Base of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Limited. With this launch, all four Hangor-class submarines being constructed in China have now entered advanced sea trial phases and are nearing final delivery to Pakistan.

Pakistan and China signed an agreement for the acquisition of eight Hangor-class submarines to modernise the Navy’s underwater fleet. Under the deal, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited under a transfer-of-technology arrangement. This step is expected to boost local shipbuilding expertise and self-reliance.

The Hangor-class submarines are equipped with modern weapons and advanced sensors, enabling them to detect and engage targets from long distances. Naval officials say these submarines will play a key role in safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime interests and promoting peace and stability in regional waters.

The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from Pakistan and China, reflecting the strong defence cooperation and long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
