Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has met senior Libyan military leaders during an official visit to Libya, aiming to deepen defence ties and promote regional security cooperation.

Field Marshal Munir held talks with Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief. The discussions focused on shared security concerns, defence collaboration, and future military engagement between the two countries.

On arrival, a contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces presented a guard of honour to Field Marshal Munir, reflecting the importance Libya attached to the visit.

During the meetings, both sides exchanged views on regional stability, counter terrorism efforts, and ways to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on military training, professional capacity building, and sharing expertise to respond to evolving security challenges.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to expanding defence relations with Libya, based on mutual respect and common strategic interests. He stressed that cooperation between friendly armed forces plays a vital role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

Libyan military chief Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar praised the professionalism and discipline of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He also expressed Libya’s keen interest in enhancing defence and training cooperation with Pakistan.

Earlier this month, Field Marshal Munir addressed a guard of honour ceremony in Rawalpindi, where he highlighted the historic importance of the newly established Defence Forces Headquarters. He described it as a key milestone in strengthening coordination among Pakistan’s armed forces to meet modern and complex security threats.

He noted that changing regional and global challenges require stronger joint operations and a unified command structure across all three services to ensure effective national defence.
