A miraculous and rare surgery has been performed at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan. Doctors successfully removed an undeveloped fetus from the chest of a five year old child, Rehan, through surgery.
According to thoracic surgeon Dr Sultan Mahmood, the fetus was located very close to the heart near a major artery, making it a shocking and extremely rare case.
He said that in medical research this condition is known as Fetus in Fetu, and such a case occurs in only one out of every five hundred thousand births worldwide. The head of thoracic surgery, along with a team of experts, successfully completed the delicate operation.
The child was brought to the pulmonology department with complaints of persistent cough.
The mother said that they consulted several doctors, but none could detect that there was another child inside her son. After the surgery, the child’s condition is satisfactory and he is now completely healthy.
According to the spokesperson of Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rehan is admitted to the thoracic ward and is being provided with the best medical facilities.
