Peshawar: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has achieved a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against narcotics, seizing a large quantity of drugs in the Khyber district.
Officials said that during what is being described as the largest anti-narcotics operation conducted in the district to date, a total of 718,060 grams of various drugs were recovered and confiscated. The operation was carried out in remote areas of Khyber district with the support of other law enforcement agencies.
The seized contraband included 615,500 grams of cannabis, 18,100 grams of crystal meth (ice), 70,000 grams of hashish, and 1,160 grams of heroin. In addition, 13,300 grams of opium and 18 ecstasy tablets were also recovered.
According to the department, cases have been registered against the suspects, and further investigations are underway. The operation was jointly conducted by the Excise Intelligence Bureau and the Excise Police Station Khyber under the supervision of senior officers.
Provincial Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan stated that a zero-tolerance policy against drug dealers and smugglers would continue to be enforced strictly, adding that all possible efforts would be made to eliminate the menace of narcotics from the province.
