PESHAWAR — Two police officers sustained minor injuries on Sunday afternoon when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a roadside green belt exploded near the Pir Zakori Bridge close to the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway toll plaza. According to Peshawar SSP Farhan Khan, the bomb targeted a police van, causing minor damage to the vehicle and leaving constables Haider Ali and Yousaf with minor scratches. Both were promptly shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
The incident follows a surge in violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, coming just days after a deadly terrorist attack in Hangu district martyred nine policemen and a joint security operation in Swat claimed multiple lives. According to monthly security assessments, July witnessed a sharp spike in casualties, marking one of the deadliest months for security personnel in over a decade.
