Common Habit That Can Lead to Neck or Head Pain

Do you often experience pain in your head or neck? If so, one of your everyday habits could be the reason. This was revealed in a medical study conducted in the United States.

‎A study by the University of Kentucky found that if you spend hours every day looking at a computer, tablet, or phone screen, you are not alone millions of people around the world do the same.

‎However, this habit can silently cause neck pain, headaches, and dizziness. The researchers used the term “tech neck” to describe this condition.

‎The study explained that when you tilt your head forward while looking at a screen, the weight of your head significantly increases pressure on your neck.

‎Over time, this increases strain on the muscles, joints, and vertebrae in the upper part of the spine.

‎Our muscles have to work hard to keep the head upright. As a result, they can become strained, which may lead to headaches or even migraines.

‎The research further noted that in severe cases, keeping the neck bent for long periods can cause nerve pain. This may lead to stiffness in the arms or shoulders or a feeling of pressure in the middle of the skull.

‎Researchers said the good news is that a few small changes can help prevent this. Whenever possible, keep the screen at eye level so you do not have to bend your neck and put extra strain on your shoulders or neck.

‎Similarly, move your body every 30 to 60 minutes, rotate your neck, and perform strengthening exercises to support the spine and reduce tension.

‎According to the researchers, if you experience new or worsening symptoms such as headaches that wake you from sleep, numbness in parts of the body, weakness, or vision problems you should consult a doctor.
