A speeding water tanker has claimed another life in the metropolis, adding to the growing number of fatalities caused by heavy traffic accidents across the city.

According to police, the latest incident occurred in the Sachal area, where a water tanker rammed into a motorcycle, killing one person and injuring another. The deceased was identified as a 47-year-old man, while the injured was shifted to hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the tanker driver attempted to flee the scene but was later arrested after a police chase.

Rising fatalities

The incident is part of a disturbing trend of deadly crashes involving heavy vehicles in Karachi. Recent reports indicate that hundreds of people have lost their lives in road accidents this year, with the toll crossing the 300 mark in some counts.

Heavy vehicles such as water tankers, dumpers and trailers are frequently involved in these accidents, often due to reckless driving and weak enforcement of traffic regulations.

Ongoing concern

Karachi has witnessed a surge in traffic-related deaths, particularly among motorcyclists. In many cases, drivers flee the scene after accidents, though some are later apprehended.

The repeated incidents have sparked public concern and calls for stricter traffic control measures, better regulation of heavy vehicles, and improved road safety enforcement.
