Kuwait has introduced a new set of digital services aimed at making work permit and residency procedures easier for expatriates, as the government pushes ahead with a broader shift toward online public services. Recent reporting says the new package is intended to reduce paperwork, speed up processing and limit in-person visits to government offices.

The reforms are part of Kuwait’s updated residency system, which took effect in late December 2025 under new executive regulations. Officials say expatriates can now complete more procedures online, including services linked to issuing, renewing and transferring residency permits, especially for private-sector workers.

Recent coverage also indicates that Kuwait has been expanding app-based services for foreign residents, including digital passport-detail updates and other residency-related functions through government platforms such as the Sahel app. These measures are meant to make compliance easier for expats while improving administrative efficiency.

Officials say the digital push is part of a wider modernization drive in immigration and labor administration. At the same time, authorities have paired the easier online access with tighter monitoring and stricter enforcement of residency rules.

The new services are expected to benefit a large expatriate population in Kuwait by simplifying routine procedures and reducing long queues, while giving the government more centralized control over visa and residency management.
