The price of a stroke injection has reached up to Rs80,000 in the open market, and due to its high cost, it is not available in government hospitals.
According to details, the unavailability of the essential tPA injection used for the treatment of Stroke in government hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been revealed, putting the lives of poor patients at risk.
On a question by MPA Ijaz Khan, the health department presented important documents in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly regarding the matter.
The documents stated that this crucial stroke injection is not available in any major government hospital in the province. Due to its unavailability at the official level, the price of a single injection in the open market has reached Rs 80,000, which is beyond the reach of the common person.
The health department expressed its constraints, stating that the tPA injection is currently not included in the Central Purchase List (CPL). Due to its excessively high price, it has not been possible to ensure its free provision or availability in government hospitals.
According to medical experts, this injection plays a key role in saving patients from disability and death if administered within the first few hours of a stroke attack.
Its absence in government hospitals and its extremely high price in the market have raised serious questions about the healthcare system.
