Sajid Khan predicts Peshawar Zalmi to lift PSL 11 trophy

Peshawar Zalmi’s off-spinner Sajid Khan has set the stakes for the upcoming season, publicly backing his franchise to win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 title.

The outspoken spinner, known for his aggressive celebrations and unfiltered interviews, didn’t hedge his bets when asked about the team’s prospects. He views the Zalmi squad as the most balanced unit heading into the draft, pointing toward the franchise’s history of consistent performance as the primary reason for his confidence.

“We aren’t just here to compete,” Sajid told reporters at a local event. “The way we’ve built the core, I’m confident we’re taking the trophy home this time.”

His bold prediction arrives as teams begin finalizing their retention lists and strategy for the draft. While many players opt for diplomatic answers regarding league outcomes, Sajid’s decision to name the winner months before the first ball is bowled is a departure from the typical, cautious rhetoric seen in professional cricket.

The reality, however, is that Zalmi has struggled to clear the final hurdle in recent years. Despite making the playoffs regularly, they have often faltered under pressure during the knockout stages. Critics argue that while the squad possesses star power, it has lacked the tactical discipline required to close out high-stakes games against teams like Multan Sultans or Islamabad United.

Sajid’s confidence might be a calculated attempt to shift the team’s psychological approach. By setting a high bar, he is challenging his teammates to shed the “nearly-men” tag that has followed the franchise since their 2017 title run.

Whether the spin-bowling department can deliver on his promise remains the biggest question. With the tournament format potentially seeing changes and new talent entering the draft, the gap between pre-season confidence and mid-season reality is often vast.

Sajid isn’t listening to the skeptics. For him, the trophy isn’t a goal; it’s an expectation.
