KARACHI: Malir Investigation Police have claimed to arrest an alleged serial rapist accused of targeting young women by luring them through fake job offers on social media, in what investigators say may be a wider pattern of abuse involving multiple victims.
The main suspect has been identified as Amir Ali. Police said he was arrested during an operation in Karachi’s Malir area along with three alleged accomplices, who are accused of helping him trap women through bogus employment opportunities circulated online.
According to SP Investigation Majida Parveen, the early investigation suggests the suspect may be linked to the alleged assault of around 17 to 18 women. Police also claimed the accused is a repeat offender and had previously been involved in robbery and sexual assault cases.
Investigators said the group allegedly used social media platforms to approach women looking for work, offering fake jobs before drawing them into vulnerable situations. The case has once again raised concerns about how easily online recruitment scams can be used to exploit women, especially those searching for employment through informal digital channels.
Police have not yet released full details of the FIRs, the specific platforms allegedly used, or whether more victims have come forward after the arrest. Officials say further investigation is underway to determine the full scale of the alleged crimes and the possible role of the arrested accomplices.
For now, the allegations remain under investigation, and the accused have not been convicted by a court. But the nature of the case has already triggered alarm in Karachi, where police say online deception was allegedly used not just for fraud, but to physically target women.
Authorities are expected to examine the suspects’ phones, social media activity and possible contact history with victims as the probe moves forward. Police have also urged women to verify job offers before meeting unknown recruiters, particularly when employment opportunities are shared through unofficial social media accounts.
