In view of the threat of the Ebola virus, passenger monitoring and immediate response at airports have been declared essential.
The Sindh Health Department has organized training sessions and mock exercises for staff in light of the Ebola virus threat. Dr. Waqar Memon emphasized awareness and training of health staff regarding the virus, while Dr. Syed Zafar Mehdi declared passenger monitoring and immediate response at airports essential.
Under the Sindh Health Department, measures have been taken at Jinnah International Airport to prevent the Ebola virus, following which preparations have been initiated across the province.
In addition, a meeting regarding the Ebola virus was held under the chairmanship of Special Secretary Health Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, in which instructions were issued to activate monitoring, immediate response and isolation systems for passengers at Jinnah Airport.
The Sindh Health Department stated that the Ebola virus has already been declared a global public health emergency, and the availability of 24 hour emergency services at Jinnah International Airport should be ensured.
It has also been decided to establish a separate storeroom at the airport for PPE kits and emergency supplies, while special protective measures have been directed for FIA and PCAA staff deployed at the airport.
