Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the government is taking steps to bring Pakistan’s informal economy into the tax net as part of efforts to broaden the tax base and strengthen revenue collection.
Speaking during a meeting with leading business figures, the prime minister emphasized that documenting economic activity and expanding the number of taxpayers are key priorities of the government’s economic reform agenda. He said the move would help create a fairer tax system and reduce reliance on existing taxpayers.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the government’s focus on export-led growth, investment promotion, and economic stability. He assured business leaders that measures to facilitate business and provide relief to the public would be reflected in the upcoming budget.
Business representatives shared their recommendations on tax reforms, economic policy, and investment opportunities, while expressing support for efforts to formalize undocumented sectors of the economy and encourage greater use of digital transactions.
The government believes that bringing more businesses and individuals into the documented economy will improve revenue generation, enhance transparency, and support long-term economic growth.
