Washington/Islamabad: US President Donald Trump has praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran, stating that Pakistan “really helped us” in efforts that led to a breakthrough agreement aimed at easing tensions and ending months of conflict.

Trump credited Pakistan, along with several Gulf countries, for assisting diplomatic efforts that helped bring Washington and Tehran closer to an agreement. He specifically acknowledged the efforts of Pakistani leadership and described Pakistan as an important intermediary in the peace process.

Pakistan has been actively involved in backchannel diplomacy between the two sides, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif previously announcing that the text of a peace agreement had been finalized after intensive negotiations. Pakistani officials have maintained that Islamabad played a key mediating role in helping both sides reach common ground.

The agreement, which includes steps toward ending hostilities and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, is being viewed as a significant diplomatic development in the region. While negotiations on long-term issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, are expected to continue, the initial agreement has been welcomed as a step toward greater stability.

Analysts say Trump’s public recognition of Pakistan’s role could strengthen Islamabad’s diplomatic standing and highlight its ability to act as a bridge between rival powers during times of regional tension.
