KARACHI — The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially extended the working hours of commercial and central bank branches for the end of June 2026 to facilitate the collection of government duties and taxes, following a formal request from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The central bank’s directive aims to ensure that taxpayers can seamlessly deposit government revenues through both Over-the-Counter (OTC) transactions and digital channels as the fiscal year draws to a close.

According to the official schedule released by the SBP, all commercial bank branches that regularly operate on Saturdays, along with designated National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branches responsible for customs collections, will remain open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Extended Timings for Fiscal Year Closing

Furthermore, the SBP has mandated significantly extended working hours during the final two days of the financial year:

  • Monday, June 29, 2026: All commercial bank branches will extend their operations until 8:00 PM.

  • Tuesday, June 30, 2026: Commercial bank branches will remain open until 10:00 PM to accommodate late transactions.

  • Customs Collection (NBP): Specialized NBP branches handling clearing and customs duties will stretch their operations until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to ensure all end-of-year tax receipts are processed.

The central bank has advised all banking institutions to coordinate closely with National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) to ensure the special clearing of government instruments runs smoothly. Additionally, commercial banks must ensure that alternative delivery channels—including automated teller machines (ATMs), mobile applications, and internet banking platforms—remain continuously operational and glitch-free for uninterrupted electronic tax payments.
