KARACHI: The government has granted a clearance window for nearly 15,000 imported used vehicles, allowing owners and importers to complete customs and regulatory formalities within a specified period.

The move is aimed at resolving the long-standing issue of vehicles that have remained stuck at ports due to documentation issues, regulatory requirements, or pending customs procedures. Officials believe the decision will help reduce congestion at port terminals while facilitating the clearance of legally imported vehicles.

According to officials, eligible importers will be required to fulfill all applicable customs duties, taxes, and legal requirements before taking possession of their vehicles. Authorities emphasized that the relief measure is subject to specific conditions and does not exempt importers from complying with existing laws and regulations.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the decision, saying it will ease financial losses for importers, reduce storage charges, and improve the flow of trade. They also noted that clearing the backlog of vehicles could help stabilize the used car market and increase vehicle availability for consumers.

Economic experts believe the initiative may generate additional revenue for the government through the collection of pending customs duties and taxes while improving operational efficiency at ports.

The authorities are expected to closely monitor the implementation of the clearance process to ensure transparency and compliance with customs regulations.
