LAHORE — The Lahore Police have registered a criminal case against the owners of a private tuition centre and a construction contractor following a tragic roof collapse in the Kahna locality on Tuesday, which resulted in the martyrdom of 14 children. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran confirmed that the suspects have been formally nominated in the First Information Report (FIR). The case was registered at the Kahna police station on the complaint of a Lahore Metropolitan Corporation official, Kashif Aslam, under Sections 322 (manslaughter) and 337-H (punishment for hurt by rash or negligent act) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the details outlined in the FIR, the private educational facility was operating within a residential property owned by four individuals identified as Rehan, Faizan, Usman, and Umar. At the time of the incident, Rehan’s wife was conducting a class inside one of the rooms when the structure gave way, leaving her injured alongside six other students. The complainant stated that the property owners, in coordination with a construction worker identified as Umair, were negligently dumping heavy soil onto an already dilapidated roof. The excessive weight coupled with the weakened foundation caused the ceiling to give way entirely, burying the victims under heavy rubble.

Law enforcement agencies confirmed that two primary individuals, including the property owner and the construction contractor responsible for the building’s structural updates, have been taken into custody during initial raids. Forensics teams are currently gathering evidence from the debris to build a comprehensive prosecution file. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued strict directives to the Capital City Police and district administrative authorities to determine the exact criminal liability of all involved parties and ensure transparent, rigorous proceedings to deliver justice to the aggrieved families.
