Most people use e-cigarettes believing that they do not have negative effects on health.
However, it has now been revealed that nicotine present in e-cigarettes or vaping products may increase the risk of lung and oral cancer. This was highlighted in a medical study conducted in Australia.
The study, carried out by the University of New South Wales, examined the health effects associated with e-cigarette use.
Researchers analyzed existing research on the subject and found that e-cigarette use may also lead to cancer. The study examined evidence suggesting that e-cigarettes can directly contribute to lung or oral cancer.
The researchers stated that this is the most comprehensive research conducted on the topic to date and indicates that e-cigarettes increase the risk of developing cancer.
They further noted that a review of all available research found that the belief that e-cigarettes do not pose a cancer risk is not accurate.
The researchers said that their work is of high quality, but further studies are needed to confirm the findings.
According to the researchers, it is commonly believed that e-cigarettes help people quit smoking and avoid cancer, but this assumption is not correct.
They added that the evidence in this regard is quite strong, though clinical trials involving humans will be required for complete confirmation.
The study found that current evidence suggests that the use of e-cigarettes may increase the risk of lung cancer by four times.
The findings of the study were published in the journal Carcinogenesis.
