The Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh has declared 79 samples of various allopathic and herbal medicines, as well as syringes, to be substandard and counterfeit.

‎The Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh has released the testing report of medicine and syringe samples collected between January and July 13. The report stated that 79 out of 2,461 samples did not meet the approved quality standards.

‎According to the report, 30 auto-disable syringes were found to be substandard and counterfeit. Auto disable syringes are designed for single use only, but some of the supplied syringes were not fully auto disable. Due to their substandard quality, there is a risk that these auto disable syringes could be reused.

‎According to Director Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh, Dr. Syed Adnan Rizvi, using the same syringe on different patients can increase the risk of infection and compromise treatment. He said that standard quality auto disable syringes can help prevent the spread of HIV, hepatitis, and other blood-borne diseases.

‎The report also stated that 20 herbal products in Sindh were found to contain allopathic ingredients, while nine medicines were not registered with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
