KUWAIT CITY — In a major crackdown to safeguard public health, authorities in Kuwait intercepted and confiscated more than 3.2 tons of spoiled fish during a rigorous joint inspection campaign at the waterfront fish market. The operation, executed by the Capital Governorate Inspection Department of the General Authority for Food and Nutrition (GAFN) in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, effectively blocked the hazardous seafood from reaching local consumers. Inspectors seized a total of 3,000 and 237 kilograms of fish after finding blatant signs of rot and decay across the market stalls.

According to official statements from GAFN, the confiscated stock had undergone significant biological deterioration, exhibiting severe alterations in color, shape, and structure, alongside emitting pungent, foul odors. Despite being completely unsafe for human consumption, the contaminated inventory had been actively prepared and displayed for retail sale. Enforcement teams immediately registered formal violation reports against the complicit vendors, initiated structured legal proceedings under food safety penal codes, and ordered the immediate destruction of the entire seized batch to prevent market re-entry. The authority reiterated its stance on maintaining zero tolerance toward food safety breaches and urged the public to actively report suspicious marketplace practices.
