LONDON — A 23-year-old Virgin Atlantic aircraft technician, Georgie Buxton, has tragically passed away several weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a workplace accident at London’s Heathrow Airport. Buxton was carrying out routine maintenance work on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner inside an engineering hangar when heavy machinery unexpectedly fell, trapping and crushing him. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he spent four weeks fighting for his life in an intensive care unit before his life support was ultimately turned off earlier this month. In the wake of the tragedy, the involved Boeing aircraft has been strictly removed from operational service and grounded as a safety measure while safety experts and investigators work to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure.
