ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed federal authorities to immediately eliminate all unnecessary posts and positions across government departments as part of a sweeping institutional reform agenda to boost public sector efficiency. Chairing a high-level review meeting on the federal government’s right-sizing initiatives, the Prime Minister emphasized that cutting redundant civilian administrative structures and integrating modern technology are vital to streamlining governance. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that these aggressive structural adjustments have already successfully lowered the federal civilian government’s expenditure-to-GDP ratio. During the briefing, it was highlighted that major entities—including the Utility Stores Corporation (USC), Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD), and Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO)—have already been shuttered, alongside the formal privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and First Women Bank Limited. To ensure total transparency, PM Shehbaz ordered an immediate third-party audit of all abolished posts and institutions, while directing the Right-Sizing Committee to submit its final wave of recommendations for remaining state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and autonomous bodies within one month.
