KARACHI: Popular television actor Madiha Imam recently shared a harrowing experience from her travels, revealing that she narrowly avoided serious legal trouble in Turkey after unknowingly attempting to pay for a fruit platter with counterfeit currency.
Appearing on actor Faysal Quraishi’s podcast, Imam recounted the incident—her first visit to the country—explaining that she had exchanged her money shortly after arrival, inadvertently using an unauthorized currency exchange.
“I ordered a fruit platter and paid. A while later, the vendor started saying something to me in his language, which I could not understand. He then brought a security guard and ripped the note in front of my face,” she recalled. Totally unaware that the banknote was fake, Imam was stunned when the vendor informed her that circulating counterfeit currency is a serious offense that can lead to an arrest.
Admitting she was terrified the situation would escalate over something as minor as a fruit platter, Imam’s ordeal was safely resolved thanks to a helpful local Turkish driver accompanying her, who stepped in and paid the vendor on her behalf. Reflecting on the close call, Imam urged fellow travelers to strictly use authorized and reputable financial services when exchanging money abroad.
The actor, widely recognized for her stellar performances in hit dramas such as Muqaddar and Ishq Jalebi, most recently starred alongside Quraishi in Behroopia.
