KARACHI: Versatile Pakistani actor Ahsan Khan has strongly advocated for women’s empowerment, urging men to actively support their wives by investing in their education, fostering financial independence, and encouraging them to pursue their personal ambitions rather than confining them to domestic duties.

Appearing in a recent interview, Khan emphasized the importance of husbands growing alongside their wives rather than feeling threatened by their success or higher earnings. “If you feel like you are doing well in life, you should hold your wife’s hand and take her with you. Do not just keep her in the kitchen or tell her to take care of the kids. Make your women independent and help them stand beside you,” he stated.

Sharing examples from his own marriage, Khan revealed how he encouraged his wife, Fatima—a LUMS graduate—to explore her passions, supporting her through professional baking training and an interior design course while taking charge of the household. He also recounted teaching her practical life skills such as driving and managing banking tasks to build her self-reliance. Furthermore, Khan criticized the common social habit of spouses publicly criticizing each other, noting that light-hearted remarks are often taken out of context and sensationalized by media headlines.

Transitioning to his professional career, Khan discussed his latest drama, Aap Ki Izzat, in which he portrays a complex, grey character named Tabish. Comparing this role to his acclaimed performance in Udaari, Khan noted that unlike his irredeemable past character, Tabish is humanly flawed and capable of redemption. He described the drama as a realistic reflection of emotional neglect and abuse found in many Pakistani households.

Khan also lauded his co-star Urwa Hocane for her exceptional depth as an artist and her bold choice to portray a raw, unglamorous character without makeup or stylized hair, rather than opting for a conventional heroine role. Urging audiences not to judge Tabish prematurely, Khan promised significant turning points ahead in the storyline.

In addition to Aap Ki Izzat, Khan is currently starring in the hit drama Zanjeerain.
