An unusual incident has attracted attention after an Italian chef was reportedly fired from his job for refusing to put pineapple on pizza. The incident took place at a restaurant in Brisbane, Australia.
The chef, Davide Tamburella, strongly believed that pineapple does not belong on traditional Italian pizza. He considered adding pineapple to pizza an insult to Italian food culture and traditions.
According to reports, the restaurant owner, Elliot Ingram, asked the chef to prepare a ham and pineapple pizza for a customer. However, the chef refused to follow the instructions. Reports also suggested that this was the third time in four years that he had refused to prepare this type of pizza.
As a result, the restaurant decided to dismiss him from his job on 20 May 2026. The chef later challenged his dismissal through Australia’s Fair Work Commission, but his application was rejected because it was submitted after the legal deadline.
Despite losing his job, the chef eventually found employment at another Italian restaurant.
The incident has sparked an interesting debate among food lovers around the world. Some people believe pineapple tastes delicious on pizza, while others argue that traditional pizza should never include pineapple.
