The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) has introduced a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) system as part of its efforts to modernise the recruitment examination process.

The move represents a significant shift from traditional paper-based examinations toward digital testing. Under the system, candidates will take selected examinations using computers at designated testing facilities.

Computer-based testing can provide several potential advantages. Digital examinations can reduce paper use, streamline administrative procedures and make it easier to manage candidate records.

The system may also reduce some manual processes associated with paper answer sheets. Digital testing platforms can potentially support faster processing and more efficient management of examination data.

However, implementing a computer-based testing system requires reliable infrastructure. Testing centres must have functional computers, secure networks, backup systems and trained technical personnel.

Examination security is another major consideration. Digital test systems must protect examination content and candidate information against unauthorised access.

Candidates may also need to become familiar with computer-based examination interfaces. This is particularly important for applicants who have had limited exposure to digital testing environments.

The transition could eventually make recruitment examinations more efficient and technology-driven.

KPPSC’s move is part of a wider trend toward digital transformation in Pakistan’s education, testing and public-sector recruitment systems.

If implemented effectively, computer-based testing could help improve examination administration while maintaining principles of transparency and merit.

The new approach may also encourage candidates to become more comfortable with digital platforms, which are increasingly being used in academic and professional testing around the world.
