OKARA: A 10-year-old girl died after being allegedly attacked by her mother following an argument over preparing breakfast in Rai Pur village, Chak No. 40/GD, Okara district, police said.
According to police, the mother, identified as Bushra Bibi, allegedly asked her daughter, Aswa, to prepare breakfast. After the girl refused, she was allegedly attacked with a knife.
The girl was taken to District Headquarters Hospital Okara for treatment but later died from her injuries, police said. Her body was shifted to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police arrested the mother and launched an investigation into the incident.
However, sources have claimed that the girl usually lived with her paternal aunt and had visited her mother on the day of the incident. They suggested that her brother may have been involved and that the mother allegedly accepted responsibility to protect him.
Police said all aspects of the case were being investigated and further legal action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and other available evidence.
