The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has approved a new examination pattern for five major subjects at the SSC and HSSC levels. Under the revised system, question papers for Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science will contain an equal distribution of multiple-choice and descriptive questions. Students will face 50% MCQs and 50% descriptive questions in these subjects.

The change was approved by the FBISE Board of Governors during its 124th meeting held on July 28, 2026. The revised assessment system will be introduced in phases under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, which carries a total of 1,200 marks.

The first phase will begin with the Second Annual Examination 2026, covering SSC-I and HSSC-I students appearing for the first time under the new scheme. From the First Annual Examination 2027, the revised pattern will be extended to relevant SSC-II and HSSC-II students as well as new SSC-I and HSSC-I candidates under the 2024 scheme.

To help students and teachers prepare, FBISE has developed Assessment Frameworks, Model Question Papers, SLO Alignment Charts and Tables of Specifications for the five subjects. These resources are intended to provide clearer guidance about the new assessment structure and examination requirements.
