Sohail Afridi has announced his intention to personally spearhead a protest march aimed at securing the release of the imprisoned PTI founder. The declaration marks a shift in the party’s strategy, moving from boardroom negotiations to street-level mobilization.

Afridi’s announcement, delivered during a press briefing, signaled that the party is done waiting for judicial or political concessions. He framed the upcoming march not as a request, but as an assertion of political will.

“I won’t be sending others to the front lines while I watch from a distance,” Afridi told reporters. “I will be leading this march myself, and we will not stop until our demands are addressed.”

The move puts significant pressure on the ruling coalition, which has spent months containing PTI’s influence through legal hurdles and administrative restrictions. By placing himself at the head of the movement, Afridi is betting that his personal involvement will reinvigorate a base that has faced a relentless crackdown since the events of May 9.

Critics suggest this is a high-risk gamble. The government has consistently labeled such demonstrations as attempts to destabilize the state, and police response to previous PTI rallies has been swift and often confrontational. Afridi, however, dismissed these concerns, arguing that the party has reached a point where the risks of inaction outweigh the risks of protest.

While the specific date and route of the march remain under wraps—a tactical decision meant to keep law enforcement guessing—the message to party workers is clear. The leadership is preparing for a sustained standoff.

Whether this maneuver forces the government’s hand or leads to another round of arrests remains the central question. For now, Afridi has moved the goalposts, leaving the administration with little room to ignore the growing unrest.
