LAHORE, Pakistan — The registration process for students entering Class 11 for the 2026–28 academic session has begun in Punjab, with education boards moving to formalise student records ahead of the new intermediate cycle.

The registration process is an important step for students who have completed their matriculation examinations and are preparing to begin higher secondary education. Students entering first-year intermediate classes are required to complete registration through their respective educational boards.

A significant development in the new registration process is the introduction of biometric verification. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Sargodha has made live fingerprint scanning mandatory for students registering for Class 11. The requirement is intended to strengthen the identification process and reduce errors or duplication in student records.

According to information reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan, the registration system will not be considered complete unless the student’s biometric verification is successfully carried out.

The move comes as Punjab’s education authorities increasingly rely on digital systems to manage student information. Biometric verification is expected to provide boards with a more reliable way of confirming students’ identities and maintaining accurate academic records.

For students, the registration process is particularly important because Class 11 marks the beginning of intermediate education. Depending on their chosen group, students may enter pre-medical, pre-engineering, computer science, commerce, humanities or other intermediate programmes offered by colleges.

Students and parents are advised to carefully follow instructions issued by their respective board and college. Registration requirements, deadlines and fees can vary between BISEs, so students should rely on notices from their own board rather than assuming that the schedule is identical throughout Punjab.

Educational institutions also have an important role in ensuring that students’ information is entered correctly. Errors in names, dates of birth, photographs, subjects or other registration details can create difficulties later when students receive examination documents.

The introduction of biometric verification is also part of a broader effort to make examination systems more secure. By connecting a student’s registration record with biometric identification, education authorities can make it more difficult for records to be duplicated or submitted using incorrect identities.

However, the new system also means that students need to complete the required verification within the registration period. Those who fail to complete biometric requirements could face delays in finalising their registration.

The 2026–28 session will eventually lead students toward their intermediate examinations after completing Classes 11 and 12. Students should therefore keep copies of their registration information and receipts and check their details as soon as their registration is processed.

While the Class 11 registration process has been confirmed for BISE Sargodha, students in other parts of Punjab should check announcements from their own boards—including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Sahiwal—for their specific dates and procedures.

The registration opening signals the start of preparations for the new intermediate academic cycle and places emphasis on accurate student records, biometric verification and timely completion of registration requirements.
