Punjab’s education boards have announced new reforms aimed at improving the examination and assessment system.
The proposed reforms will cover the entire examination process, including question paper preparation, marking and result compilation. Under the new approach, question papers are expected to include a balanced mix of easy, difficult and highly difficult questions to better assess students’ abilities. An item bank will also be developed to help boards prepare more consistent and balanced papers.
The marking system is also set for an important change. Instead of focusing only on the final answer, examiners will be able to award marks for correct steps and partial progress in solving a question, giving students credit for their method and understanding.
Another proposed change involves the announcement of Intermediate Part-I first annual examination results, which officials said are expected to be released in the second week of August from next year, instead of September. All educational boards across Punjab have been directed to implement the proposed reforms.
