The Rawalpindi district administration has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions within Rawalpindi city following heavy rainfall that caused flooding, waterlogging and disruptions across several areas.
The holiday applies to schools, colleges and universities operating within the city. Authorities took the decision as torrential rain created difficult conditions for students, teachers and other staff travelling to educational institutions.
According to weather reports, 201mm of rain was recorded at Shamsabad, the highest rainfall measurement in the twin-city area. Other locations also received substantial rainfall, including New Katarian, Golra and the Pakistan Meteorological Department station.
Heavy downpours resulted in flooding in low-lying areas, while water accumulated on roads and disrupted traffic. The situation also affected daily activities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.
The closure is intended to ensure the safety of students and educational staff amid hazardous weather and difficult road conditions. Authorities are monitoring the situation as further rainfall could cause additional waterlogging and traffic problems.
The district administration has advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in areas affected by flooding and accumulated rainwater.
The decision comes as the twin cities continue to experience unusually heavy monsoon rainfall, with authorities maintaining close monitoring of vulnerable areas and drainage conditions.
