KARACHI, October 5, 2026: A major fire broke out at a garment factory near Habib Bank Chowrangi in Karachi’s SITE area late Sunday night and was brought under control after around four hours of firefighting, with no casualties reported.
According to Chief Fire Officer Muhammad Humayun Khan, the fire started at around 11:20 pm and spread to the factory’s second floor, where plastic granules, plastic rolls, rubber and fibre were stored.
Twelve fire tenders, one snorkel, three water bowsers and six water tankers were deployed to control the blaze. Firefighters also used foam during the operation.
Officials said the presence of highly combustible materials, particularly plastic granules, intensified the fire. Some people were inside the factory when the fire started, but they evacuated immediately.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Officials said it would be investigated after the cooling operation is completed.
Police and Pakistan Rangers also assisted at the site, while the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation supplied water to support the firefighting operation.
The fire was brought under control after approximately four hours, while cooling operations continued to prevent the flames from reigniting.
