NEW YORK, October 12, 2026: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has spent more than $276 million since July to support Republican efforts to retain control of the United States Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
According to campaign finance records reported by Reuters, Musk has contributed approximately $366 million to political causes during the current election cycle, making him one of the biggest individual political donors in the country.
A significant portion of the recent funding has gone to Republican-aligned political groups. Around $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, which supports Republican Senate candidates, while $20 million went to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which backs Republican candidates for the House of Representatives.
Musk also contributed approximately $76 million to America PAC, his own political action committee, which is working to increase voter turnout through campaign activities and outreach.
The spending comes as Republicans seek to maintain their majorities in Congress ahead of the November 3 elections. Democrats, meanwhile, are hoping to regain control of the House and Senate.
Musk’s political spending has also drawn scrutiny because of his business interests, including SpaceX, and questions raised by Democratic lawmakers about potential conflicts of interest.
The election will determine the balance of power in Congress and could influence the direction of US policy and government oversight in the coming years.
