ISLAMABAD, October 17, 2026: Former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Khalid Khurshid Khan has been sent to jail on judicial remand after appearing before an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad.
Police had requested physical remand for further investigation in a case linked to the November 26 protests. However, the court rejected the request and ordered that Khurshid be placed in judicial custody.
Khurshid was arrested in Peshawar from the residence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, according to earlier reports.
The former chief minister is also facing other legal proceedings. In December 2024, an anti-terrorism court in Gilgit-Baltistan sentenced him to 34 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs600,000 in a separate case involving alleged threats to security institutions.
The latest judicial-remand order relates to the proceedings in Islamabad and should not be confused with the separate sentence issued in Gilgit-Baltistan.
