KARACHI: Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT), Karachi, organised a Digital Safety Advocacy and Awareness Seminar to educate students about cybersecurity, online protection and responsible internet use. The seminar highlighted the growing importance of digital awareness and equipped students with knowledge to recognise and prevent cyber threats.

The event focused on cybercrime prevention, online responsibilities, personal data protection and the need to develop a safer digital environment. Students were encouraged to adopt responsible online practices and remain cautious while using social media and other internet platforms.

Expert Highlights Common Cyber Threats

Yasir Nawaz Bhutto, founder of Cyberwise Law Associates, attended the seminar as a guest speaker. He discussed several major cybersecurity concerns, including online fraud, phishing, cyberattacks, data privacy violations, social media risks and digital footprints.

He emphasised that users can improve their online safety by creating strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links, protecting personal information and exercising caution when sharing content online. He also highlighted the importance of understanding how digital activities can affect personal privacy and security.

Principal Stresses Responsible Technology Use

Addressing participants, AIT Principal Engr. Dr. Muhammad Kashif Sheikh said that understanding how to use technology was not enough in the digital age; awareness of its safe and responsible use was equally important.

He explained that the institution aimed to provide students with practical knowledge that could protect them from cyber threats and help them become responsible digital citizens.

Faculty Members Support Cybersecurity Awareness

Head of the Software Department Tasneem Arzoo played an important role in supporting the seminar’s educational objectives and promoting cybersecurity awareness among students.

Head of the CIT Department Muhammad Sajid and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department Sitara Sabir Awan also contributed through technical guidance, highlighting the significance of digital safety in education and technology.

Students Pledge Responsible Internet Use

Students welcomed the seminar and described it as informative, useful and relevant to the challenges of today’s digital environment. The session encouraged participants to be more vigilant about online risks and to adopt safer internet habits.

The seminar concluded with a message that digital competence involves more than technological knowledge. Protecting personal information, recognising cyber threats and behaving responsibly online are essential for building a safer digital future.
